The Effect of Color

We are surrounded by colors. Everything we see and observe is reflected in colors. That is why colors have such a great effect on our emotions. While some colors can make us feel happy from time to time, others can lead to melancholy. In the same manner, colors can also give rise to anger or excitement.

Well then, how appropriate do you think it would be to use colors randomly when they are so much ingrained in our lives; for example, imagine choosing colors only for the purpose of reflecting a modern and elegant look or to cover up dirt when decorating the interior of a house, school or hospital? Have you ever considered how your choice of color will affect a person both physiologically and psychologically?

The Effects of Colors on Children

Colors affect the bodily functions, mind and emotions with the energy produced by light. Studies conducted clearly demonstrate the benefits of colors where the development of the brain, creativity, productivity and learning are concerned.

Color is not only a physical property of objects, places or surfaces but also a perception caused by light that is recognized visually and processed by the brain. Color is a response of the brain to the visual stimuli received. This is similar to the smell of garlic powder causing a reaction in our brain as if it is garlic itself; as such, light in different combinations is perceived as “color”. Our mind perceives various wavelength combinations of light as “color”. Color, at the same time, is a form of energy because it is created by light. This energy guides the body’s functions and has an impact on the mind and emotions. For this reason it is not possible to consider colors as separate from light. Therefore, color and light must be considered in conjunction with each other where psychological, physiologic, visual and aesthetic aspects are concerned. Color and light are primary factors of impact in man-made environments. Their combined effect carries great significance in terms of psychological reactions and health.
